This Day In History
Nov. 15, 1997: After finishing second or third each of the past five seasons, the Toutle Lake volleyball team finally makes it to the top of the mountain, beating Zillah 15-6, 15-7 to secure the 1A state title in Don Merzoian’s first year as head coach. The Ducks won six matches across two days in Chelan, starting the second day with a sweep of the host Goats in an 8:30 a.m. matchup before downing Colfax 15-9, 17-15 in the semifinals. Chrissi Printz led TL with 26 kills across the three Saturday matches, while Shanna Higgins had 24.
