This Day In History
Nov. 13, 1970: Kelso holds on to beat Hoquiam 27-25 in its homecome game, thanks to some key kicks and defense. Hilander quarterback Ty Gorton ran for a touchdown and threw for two more, while Jerry Ylonen ran for a score and Hank Jones — who caught Gorton’s final touchdown toss — went 3-for-4 on extra points. Hoquiam, meanwhile, missed an early extra point, keeping the Grizzlies behind and forcing them to try two-point conversions. Despite the guests scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, the Hilander defense held firm on both two-point tries, with Pat King picking off the second with five minutes remaining to cap the win.
