That Day In History
Feb. 17, 1998: The R.A. Long boys basketball team blows a 19-point lead in the fourth quarter, but does just enough to come away with a 90-87 win over Washougal to keep its postseason hopes alive.
“We held on by the skin of our teeth,” RAL coach Kyle Fowler said.
Nick Hanson poured in 32 points to lead the Lumberjacks, Doug Nyberg scored 16, Chris Chambers scored 14, and Phil Griffith finished with 13.
This Day In History
Feb. 18, 2006: Kelso’s Brandon Sitch needs under two minutes to pin Sedro-Woolley’s Patrick Janicki to claim the 3A 160-pound state title at Mat Classic XVIII, his fourth state title. He joined R.A. Long’s Pat Connors, Tonasket’s Martin Mitchell, and Lake Stevens’ Burke Barnes as the only four-time state champions in Washington history, and finished his high school career with a 134-5 record.
