This Day In History
Feb. 6, 2004: The Mark Morris boys basketball team goes on a 10-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to pull away to a 64-60 Civil War win over R.A. Long at the Lumberdome, getting the Jacks back for a defeat on the other side of the lake earlier in the season. Chris Hutton led the Monarchs with a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Josh Wilson poured in 16 points. Adam Perry had 22 points for R.A. Long.
The Monarchs’ decisive run bookended a fracas at the scorers’ table after a hard foul by Jonah Hobson on Ryan Campbell, between RAL coach Kyle Fowler — who said that MM boss Bill Bakamus had called Hobson an unkind name — and Bakamus — who hadn’t been thrilled with Fowler’s quote to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer the month prior comparing Mark Morris’ transfers to a college program. The fiesty night turned out to be the beginning of a historic streak of crosstown success for the Monarchs, who went on to win the next 27 Civil War matchups.
