This Day In History
April 13, 2010: Jake McCoy fires 126 pitches in a complete game, and Mark Morris needs all of it to edge out Hockinson 2-1 in 2A Greater St. Helen’s League play. McCoy struck out 14 on the night, his biggest punchout coming to escape a bases-loaded threat in the bottom of the sixth, just after the Monarchs took the lead with an error, a steal, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly.
That Day In History
April 12, 2004: Megan Mallough and Beth Holmes put on an absolute clinic in the circle in Toledo’s 15-0 five-inning win over Hockinson, getting all 15 of the game's outs on strikeouts. Mallough got the first 12 K’s in four innings, before Holmes punched out all three batters she faced in the fifth. At the plate, Tori Reisbeck went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and a triple, Candice Bodine hit a pair of triples, and Megan Alcala and Amber Hopf both had three knocks.

Food (Line) Drive
The student at Mark Morris and R.A. Long High Schools have been working behind the scenes in order to rally support for the annual Civil War Food Drive.
With Longview’s two public high school set to play their regular season series this week, the primary day for the food drive is slated to take place on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“It’s less of a competition this year and more of a collaborative effort, with the primary goal of collecting as much food as possible for donation to Lower Columbia Cap,” MM ASB president Anabelle Schellenberg said.
Donations can be made directly at Grocery Outlet, Fred Myers, Safeway (on Ocean Beach Hwy), and WalMart (on 7th Ave.). Each location will include bins with the R.A. Long and Mark Morris logos, so be sure to choose wisely when making your donation.
Donation sites will be in operation through April 24, and students may donate within their schools from April 20-24.
Putting a Name on It
The Castle Rock baseball team will holding a dedication ceremony on Saturday in order to name their home field in honor of former head coach Ron Graham.
Graham was a teacher and coach at The Rock from 1969 to 1997. When he took over as skipper for the Rockets the team still played its games behind the middle school, but with help from the community Graham spearheaded the effort to build the double-diamond complex currently utilized at the high school.
Over his 27 year career Graham put together an overall record of 361-252 (with five ties in the mix). In 1988 he led the Rockets to their first and only State title on the baseball diamond. Graham also led The Rock to a runner-up finish at State, along with a fourth-place finish and 15 playoff appearances.
Graham also helped to coach football at Castle Rock, including a three-year stint as head coach. And after retiring he spent several years as an official for football and basketball games. He was inducted in the Washington State Coaches Hall of Fame in 1994.
During his career, Ron had the support of his wife, Tami, and their daughter, Marnie.
The dedication ceremony will begin on the varsity field at 12:45 p.m. A postgame social reception will be held at the Castle Rock Axe House and Event Center from 3-6 p.m.
