This Day In History
Sept. 15, 1989: Winlock comes home with an ugly but dominant Battle of the Cowlitz win — 15-0 over Toledo — in a game that featured four interceptions and nine total fumbles. Cardinal star back Konner Kersavage went down with a leg injury early in the first quarter, but in his absence, Brian Stevenson — normally Kersavage’s lead blocker — carried the ball a whopping 41 times for 166 yards.
That Day In History
Sep. 14, 1990: The Naselle football team sees itself outgained by nearly 140 yards in the first half in Cathlamet but turns it around in the second, flipping a 12-0 deficit at the break into a 14-12 win over Wahkiakum. Brett Kimball got the Comets on the board with a 38-yard touchdown, and Tim Wirkkala scored the second, after Randy Lindstrom recovered a fumble. Joe Turgeon scored the two touchdowns for the Mules and led all rushers with 141 yards.
“At halftime I kind of thumped on the chalkboard and ranted and raved,” Naselle head coach Jeff Eaton said. “I think that got us going.”
