This Day In History
May 31, 2003: A day after taking home the Class B state title in the discus, Wahkiakum’s Beth Frink makes it a double in Cheney, starting her day in the shot put finals with a 41-foot, 3/4-inch huck that nobody can come within 3 feet of the rest of the day.
“I wanted to go in there and let everyone know I was there,” Frink said of her first (and winning) attempt.
Elsewhere around the oval at EWU, Ilwaco’s Nate Appel set both a meet record and a school record when he won the title in the 2A boy’s 800 meters with a time of 1:54.30, and Kalama’s Ryan Scott won the 1A javelin crown with a 185-foot, 1-inch throw.
