This Day In History
Oct. 14, 1994: Already trailing by a touchdown and packed up against its own end zone, Winlock flips the script on Rainier (Wash.) with a 90-yard pick-six by Scott Gifford to take the lead for good in a 13-6 win.
“It was the play of the day,” Winlock coach Mike Voie said. “It turned the game around.”
Frank Dorner gave the Cardinals some insurance toward the end of the second quarter with a 17-yard touchdown run. After the Mountaineers took the lead in the first quarter, the Winlock defense held them to just 50 total yards the rest of the way.
