This Day In History
Sept. 3, 2021: The Kalama football team comes out firing to the tune of 32 first-quarter points, turning an early shootout into a blowout as the 2B Chinooks open their season with a 57-20 win over 2A Woodland in the 8-Mile War. Quarterback Jackson Esary finished his night with five passing touchdowns and two rushing scores, and Jack Doerty added an 80-yard kickoff return to the house.
Dusting Off Old Box Scores
Sep. 1, 1989: Mark Morris alum Bud Black goes eight innings and allows just one run on four hits, but leaves Cleveland’s game in Detroit in line for the loss. Cleveland went on to tie the game in the top of the ninth but lost in extras.
Sep. 2, 2008: Kelso alum Jeff Bailey goes 1-for-3 with a pair of walks in the Red Sox’ 14-2 win over the Orioles at Fenway Park. Bailey’s single to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning pushes his hitting streak to six games, the longest of his three-year career.
Sept. 3, 2014: Kelso alum Trevor May allows three runs in five innings of work and strikes out six, earning his first career MLB win as the Twins beat the White Sox 11-4.
