This Day In History
April 29, 1976: Gary Gonser wins the mile race at Castle Rock’s three-school meet with Toutle Lake and Cathlamet in 4:26.2, setting a new school record and a state-wide season best for 1A schools. He also won the two-mile race. Gonser wasn’t the only Rocket to set a record on the day; Greg McVey, in his first career track and field meet, broke a 51-year-old school mark in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 3 1/2 inches.
