That Day In History
May 30, 1998: Sophomore Ksandra Sims takes a perfect game into the seventh inning, finishing with a 12-strikeout one-hitter to lead Kelso to a 3-0 victory over Kamiak and its first state title in program history. Rain ended the first day of the tournament after just one round, meaning the Hilanders had to win three games on Saturday for their title. Sims started the quarterfinal against University (Spokane) and struck out 12 in a no-hitter, before ace Julie Fromm — who threw the only game Friday — through a complete game in a 5-1 semifinal win over Rogers (Spokane).
This Day In History
May 31, 1986: Naselle’s quartet of Shawn Chattick, Doug Rogers, Kyle Mattews, and Frank Riepenhausen set a state record with a time of 3:29.1 to win the 4x400 meter relay and hand the Comets the boys track and field team title — Naselle High School’s first state title in any sport — on a 108-degree day in Wenatchee.
